Environmental exposure plays a critical role in the material and product development process.  It allows us to gain insight into one of the most critical and elusive quality questions, “Will our product last?”.  Unfortunately, there is no one test that can answer this question for all products under all scenarios.  However, by understanding what conditions your product will encounter in the field we can help you find an appropriate environmental exposure technique.

APM Testing’s newest addition to our environmental exposure capabilities is a Q-Sun-XE3-HBSE Xenon Arc exposure chamber.  Xenon Arc is a versatile means of simulating exposure to UV light and weathering.  This chamber allows us to simulate exposure to full spectrum sunlight, with a variety of light filters to reproduce conditions from direct daylight to light filtered through window panes.  The humidity control and sample spray features allow for further control of the environment to simulate high humidity or even rain.  With the addition of Q-Lab’s chiller attachment the range of chamber temperatures available is significantly increased as well.  All of this adds up to a remarkable piece of equipment that can reproduce years of real-world exposure in a fraction of the time.

APM’s extensive material property testing capabilities coupled with an expanded exposure testing laboratory allows our customers to streamline their product evaluation process.  By performing conditioning, environmental exposure and evaluation testing in a single location, APM is able to provide comprehensive test reports with faster turn around times.

Most common Xenon Arc Exposure test standards are listed below:

SAE J2527, SAE J2412, SAE J1960, SAE J1885, ASTM G155, ASTM D7869, ISO 4892-2, ASTM D2565
