Compression Set (Method B)

Purpose: This test method covers the compression set testing of rubber intended for use in applications in which the rubber will be subjected to compressive stresses in air or liquid media.

Sample: Slabs, 6 x 6 x 0.08 inches or buttons, 1.14-inch diameter x 0.49 inch thick

Basic Description: The thickness of the test specimens is measured using a drop gauge and are placed between the plates.  The specimens are then compressed to 25% of its original thickness and placed in the oven at a specified time and temperature.  Once removed from the oven, the specimens are then allowed to rest for 30 minutes before the final thickness is measured.
